Around 23:00 UTC Maserati Multi70 was sailing at 27 knots at about 50 miles from Vietnam in the South Chinese Sea, as crew member Sébastien Audigane explains.
“Off the vietnamese coast, Maserati Multi70 rushes into the starry black night with a reef in the mainsail big gennaker and J2, between 22 and 29 knots of speed. We can see floating neons above the horizon, namely fishing boats or cargo ships.
We jibed two hours ago to get closer to the coast, most of all to sail in a stronger wind corridor. On board everything goes well, we are happy to be at sea.”
Later, at 9:00 UTC, he gives an update: “We leave the Vietnamese coast under a grey and almost foggy sky, the fishermen and their AIS signals (or not) are behind us now. Heading towards Singapore, we must remain vigilant because small boats may appear at the last moment in front of us.”
