Maserati Multi 70 set sail to attempt the Fastnet original route record at 19:22:55 GMT (21.22 Italian time). Giovanni Soldini and his crew will have to cross the finish line off Plymouth before tomorrow at 20:27:13 GMT to beat the current time, 25 hours, 4 minutes and 18 seconds, set just a month ago by Peter Cunningham’s MOD70 PowerPlay.
The Team set sail off Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, and is headed west: they will pass Land’s End and cross the Celtic Sea until the Fastnet Rock, south of Ireland, before going back to the finish line off Plymouth, leaving Bishop Rock to the left, sailing for 595 miles.
