At 22 UTC on Tuesday July 16th, at the beginning of the fourth day of Transpac, Maserati Multi 70 is sailing again on starboard tack, on the rudder without the foil.
Giovanni Soldini explains: “On this side we are suffer a lot, the trimaran looks like a wild horse: it speeds up, rears up and then slams into the water slowing down. Without the rudder’s foil we lose the longitudinal trim’s control and there’s no way we can go faster than 25-26 knots on average. We can’t wait to gybe for the last time, in about 350 miles: from there we should sail straight to the finish line on port tack, on the unharmed hull, and we will do our best!”
