Maserati Multi 70‘s Team is sailing South West towards the high pressure at 17 knots, with 12 knots of East-North-Easterly wind (16.30 UTC). LoveWater also set course to South West and is chasing the Italian trimaran, which is 35 miles ahead.
“We’re still in the lead”, explains Giovanni Soldini, “but the situation is really complex and the passage through the high pressure will open up with the wind coming from behind, so while we’re already slowing down LoveWater is still sailing quite fast. It’s like we’re in front of a gate that will open up when LoveWater will have reached us: we will probably get through side by side”.
At 16 UTC, the Italian trimaran still has 1602 miles to sail to reach the finish line: Giovanni Soldini’s Team already sailed more than half of the course from Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro, about 3600 miles long.
