On Saturday January 8th 2022, in the waters of Puerto Calero, Lanzarote, on the starting line of the 8th edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race, organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in collaboration with Yacht Club de France, Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70 will also kick off the new sport season.
Over two hundred sailors coming from 22 different countries will be competing along a route of approximately 2995 miles across the Atlantic Ocean after escaping Canary Islands. A start that requires tactical choices before sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to Quarantine Point, east of Grenada in the Eastern Caribbean.
Maserati Multi 70 gets ready to sail the Ocean in foiling set up, challenging in a highly competitive race multihulls Argo (USA), PowerPlay (CAY) and Ultim Emotion 2 (FRA), with the common goal to break the record of 5 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes, 3 seconds, set by MOD70 Phaedo 3 of Lloyd Thornburg in 2015.
Giovanni Soldini and the whole team of Maserati Multi 70 spent the last two months in the shipyard for routine maintenance and a few minor improvements. “Everything is ready for the Transat,” says Giovanni Soldini, “it will be a hard-fought race. Our competitors have already proved to be at a very high level, so as always we will sell our life dearly. It will be exciting!”.
Maserati Multi 70 is participating in the RORC Transatlantic Race for the third time, after competing in the editions of 2016 and 2018, when it crossed the finish line first with an elapsed time of 6 days, 18 hours, 54 minutes and 3 seconds.
Aboard Maserati Multi 70, Giovanni Soldini is accompanied by 5 professional sailors, already crew members: Vittorio Bissaro (ITA), Oliver Herrera Perez (ESP), Thomas Joffrin (FRA), Francesco Pedol (ITA) and Matteo Soldini (ITA).
