Gear, sails, appendages – everything has been checked and rechecked aboard Maserati Multi70 for the first ocean race of the 2016/17 season. The now-imminent RORC Transatlantic Race casts off on Saturday, November 26 from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, this third edition follows a 2,865-mile transatlantic route between Lanzarote (Canary Islands) and the Grenadines (Grenada). A total of 10 teams spanning Maxi, MOD 70 and Class 40 craft, will start.
Maserati Multi70 will leave La Spezia at sometime between Saturday and Monday depending on the weather outlook. She will then sail the 1,400 nautical miles to the easternmost island in the Canaries where excitement is mounting regarding the arrival of the Italian trimaran as one of the big names in the race.
“We carried out a full check of Maserati Multi70 and we’re satisfied. All the hydraulic rams have been overhauled and the joints changed. We have a new set of sails and we’ve done a thorough check of the appendages,” said Giobanni Soldini who is primed for this ocean challenge.
