Now on her fifth day of racing, Maserati Multi70 spent the night in the North Atlantic low-pressure area. Over the last 12 hours, she has maintained a high average speed that has reduced the gap with Phaedo3 by a further 100 nautical miles. The two boats are now 209 miles apart.
Both trimarans are also in mid-Atlantic at this point in the race. Maserati Multi70 is 1,661 nautical miles from the Grenada finish-line and making a speed of 9.5 knots (09.00 GMT). In the coming hours, she will follow the mid-Atlantic clockwise rotation of the Trade Winds which have finally stabilised. This will see her setting an increasingly straight course to the Caribbean finish.
In his morning satellite link, Giovanni Soldini commented: «We are now on the right side of the depression. To get there, we had to sail across the centre in light winds and squally conditions. We also cut a hundred miles off the distance to Phaedo3 overnight. Now we have to try to make the most of the rotation of the Trade Winds to get to Grenada».
