Three months of sea trials, modifications in the yard at Lorient and a 3,500 miles of sea between Brittany and Porto Lotti via the islands of Sardinia and Sicily: Maserati and Giovanni Soldini have had a very busy first three months with their new boat Maserati Multi70. Over a month of non-stop work in the yard, in fact, the trimaran was carefully dismantled and then reassembled after every last inch was meticulously checked and it became apparent that no major work was required. She has been sailing non-stop since she returned to the water.
“We’re at a very experimental stage right now, testing out new solutions and trying to make them more efficient and reliable,” explains Giovanni Soldini. “
“Most of the work is focusing on the America’s Cup-style L-foils, the daggerboard plan, and adjusting the rake of the rotating wing mast to make her faster than a traditional MOD70 and ensure she really gives her all in open sea”.
All Maserati Multi70’s competitive outings in 2016 are crewed so there will be a team of six professional sailors aboard, including a few of Giovanni Soldini’s loyal mainstays from the world of both multihull and ocean racing who are also helping optimise the boat for the challenges to come.
