The weather conditions are not favorable to Maserati Multi 70 and the crew. Giovanni Soldini explains: “Any option to go around the high pressure of the Azores on its West side leaving it on our right in order to take advantage of a SW wind to arrive to England is impossible. From this point of view we are lucky to be far to the East having chosen to cross the Equator close to the African coasts. If we had chosen differently we would have had to sail twice as many miles upwind, and now we would probably be at the same latitude but 1200 miles further West and, since we have to sail to Finisterre close to the coast, we would be in a bad position”
At the 20.40 UTC ranking, Maserati Multi 70 is traveling at 18 knots with an advantage of 1269 miles over the current record.
