Because of the collision between Maserati Multi 70 and an unidentified object that occurred not too long after the start of the CA 500, the pivot attached to the steering rod of the right side rudder broke. Without this little part, the rudder is no longer usable.
Giovanni Soldini comments from aboard: “Unfortunately when these kind of impacts occur, we have to slow down to understand the extent of the damage and to secure the boat. The damage itself is not bad, it only affects one small detail, we’re very happy about the excellent fuse system: the rudder is safe because of it.”
Now the Italian trimaran is 61 miles away from the finish line, the wind dropped to 10 knots and the Team is sailing at 12 knots of speed, behind Argo and PowerPlay.
