The challenge between Maserati Multi70 and Phaedo3 continues as the two trimarans, with the Egadi Islands behind them, are locked in the passage between Pantelleria and Lampedusa in the last sprint towards Malta, where they are expected to arrive in the early morning.
At 10 pm the American trimaran is leading the Rolex Middle Sea Race’s fleet with an advantage of 14 nm on Maserati Multi70. Giovanni Soldini and his Team are fighting to reduce the distance but are slowed down by the lighter winds under Pantelleria, which Phaedo3 ’s american crew passed with stronger winds.
191 miles to go to the finish line for Maserati Multi70. At the present time the Italian trimaran is sailing close to the shore of Pantelleria, while Phaedo3 – 177 miles off Malta – is already sailing in the open sea.
For the last night, the two forerunners of the Rolex Middle Sea Race are expecting a 20 knots Siroc wind and an end of the race sailing windward.
