With less than 24 hours to go before the start of the 10th edition of the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, scheduled for October 25th, 2023 at 11:10 a.m. local time (3:10 UTC, 5:10 a.m. Italian time) and organized by the Royal Yacht Club of Hong Kong under the auspices of the RORC, the weather framework that will accompany the fleet of competitors along the 673 nautical miles of Asia’s longest offshore race is being defined.
With one week to go until the start of the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, scheduled for October 25, 2023 at 11:10 a.m. local time (3:10 UTC, 5:10 a.m. Italian time) and organized by the Royal Yacht Club of Hong Kong under the auspices of the RORC, Giovanni Soldini and the crew of the trimaran Maserati Multi70 are ready to tackle Asia’s longest offshore race: 673 nautical miles in the South China Sea, with start line in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour and finish line off the coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam.
At 8:58 a.m. local time (18:58 UTC; 20:58 Italian time) on Thursday, July 6, Giovanni Soldini and the crew of Maserati Multi70 crossed the finish line of the 52nd edition of the Transpacific Yacht Race (Transpac) in second position behind the MOD70 Orion, skippered by Justin Shaffer, which won the Line Honours, finishing the race at 2:48 a.m. local time with a time of 4 days 17 hours, 48 minutes and a 6-hour lead.
At 8.55 local time (18.55 UTC, 20.55 Italian time), Maserati Multi 70 crossed the finish line of the 52nd edition of the Transpac, the historic race from Los Angeles to Honolulu.
At 12:00 UTC (14:00 Italian time) on Wednesday, July 5th, Maserati Multi 70 continues to sail with a tail wind, waiting for the wind tu turn allowing the Italian team to gybe towards Hawaii. The MOD left in the race are only two: Argo was forced to withdraw from the competition due to engine issues, leaving Maserati Multi 70 to duel with Orion, in the lead.
At 11:55 a.m. local time (6:55 p.m. UTC; 8:55 p.m. Italian time) on Saturday, July 1, the 52nd edition of the Transpacific Yacht Race (Transpac) also got underway for the multihull class, which joined the rest of the fleet already racing. From Pt. Firmin, Los Angeles, Giovanni Soldini and crewmates will sail Maserati Multi70 2225 miles to the finish line off Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii, challenging the two American MOD 70s Argo, skippered by Jason Carroll and navigator Brian Thompson, and Orion, skippered by Justin Shaffer.
At 12.00 local time (19.00 UTC, 21.00 Italian time) Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini crossed the starting line of the 52nd edition of Transpac, off Pt. Fermin, Los Angeles, with 7 knots of WSW wind.
