The second race of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge started: off Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, Maserati Multi 70‘s Team and their two competitors set sail around 9.40 local time (13.40 UTC, 14.40 Italian time), with 20-25 knots of East-North-Easterly wind and gusts up to 30 knots.
Maserati Multi 70‘s Team had to retire from the first of the three races of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge, which started today in Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten. The Team’s participation to the second race tomorrow is confirmed.
Everything is ready for the start of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge: tomorrow, on Friday February 14th at 9.00 local time (13.00 UTC, 14.00 Italian time) Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70’s Team will set sail from Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, for the first of a total of three races making up the event. Alongside the Italian Time, will also participate the American trimaran Argo, for the first time in flying mode and the 63-foot-long trimaran Shockwave.
Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70’s Team are ready to participate in the second edition of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge, from February 14th to February 16th, which will start and finish in Simpson Bay, on the southern side of the Franco-Dutch island of Saint Martin/Sint Marteen. The event, organized by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, is reserved to multihulls, which will compete in three different races in the Caribbean Sea.

At 14 UTC Maserati Multi 70 is really close to the finish line, around 10 miles away. The Italian Team is fighting with the light wind and is sailing at 3 knots towards Rio de Janeiro.
The Italian trimaran’s direct competitor, LoveWater, crossed the finish line of the Cape2Rio a few hours ago, at 5.54.2″ local time (8.54 UTC, 9.54 Italian time), finishing the race with an elapsed time of 7 days, 20 hours, 54 minutes and 2 seconds.
At 16 UTC, LoveWater is still in the lead, 326 miles away from the finish line, but Maserati Multi 70 is gaining ground and the distance from its competitor is decreasing, going down to 30 miles.
Maserati Multi 70, at the end of the sixth day of racing, continues to fight to get back on the lead: 536 miles before the finish line, the Italian Team sails at 27 knots, 46 miles behind LoveWater, who is going at 26 knots (positions updated at 8 UTC).
