Giovanni Soldini and his seven crewmates are busy making final preparations to the Maserati Multi70 before of the start of the RORC Caribbean 600 Race from Antigua on Monday February 20.
Over the last week the international crew of multihull experts has systematically worked through the high-tech trimaran from bow to stern, triple checking everything and ironing out any potential problems ahead of next week’s 600-mile race.
«Maserati Multi70 is a highly complex boat with state of the art technology,» Soldini explained. «For maximum performance we need everything to work as it should. That’s why we must prepare so carefully.»
It’s painstaking but vital work – especially, as Soldini points out, when you are facing a challenge as tough as the RORC Caribbean 600.
«This race is unlike open-ocean races where you sail in a straight line for long periods and can tweak the setup of the boat here and there to get the maximum performance,» Soldini said. «In this race there are lots of islands to race around and we have to be able to quickly get the boat sailing fast on whatever the required wind angle is».
