Difficult day aboard Maserati Multi 70: with a rough sea and a strong wind, LoveWater‘s longer hulls advantage is felt.
Giovanni Soldini explains: “Despite our efforts yesterday we couldn’t keep up with LoveWater‘s Team, who sailed further downwind towards the high pressure where the wind was turning East: this way they optimised their advantage with the rotation of the wind. The weather forecasts suggested that there would’ve been less wind at that latitude, but they managed to maintain a great speed. Now the conditions have changed, the wind is lighter and the waves are smaller, the race is still long and we will knuckle down until the end as always!”
At 13 UTC Maserati Multi 70 is sailing West at 24 knots, with a 14 knots Southerly wind. The two competing trimarans, after sailing more than 1.000 miles, have now reached the fleet of the smaller boats that set sail from Cape Town a week before, on January 4th.
