Day 24. Less than 150 miles off the coastline of Liberia, Maserati Multi 70 slowed down this morning after recording another day with around 500 nautical miles travelled. The trimaran has entered the southern sector of the influenced zone of a depression that represents the last obstacle before entering the trade winds as Giovanni Soldini explained yesterday evening: ”We should pass the centre of a tropical low pressure quite stationary, just in front of the Sierra Leone”.
According to the weather forecast, the crew of Maserati Multi 70 will have to deal with weak and very unstable winds to overcome the obstacle, the infamous doldrums also known as “pot-au-noir” in France.
”Instead of this”, said Soldini, ”this morning we entered a hole without wind that the weather forecast do not see, so we hope to get out quickly out there”.
At the 9.38 UTC rankings, the advantage of Maserati Multi 70 on the record holder is 1.997 miles with still 3.263 nm left until the finish line.
