At 21 UTC Maserati Multi70 is at 37° South and 49° East. The trimaran travels at 23 knots towards Cape Town, which is around 1500 miles ahead. The advantage over Lionel Lemonchois’ record rises to 400 miles.
“We are now going to find two cold fronts”, says Soldini. “We will cross the first one tomorrow, around 13 UTC, and we will go through the second one – more violent and problematic – on February 2nd at 6 UTC. This will make us sail closer to land in front of South Africa, where the waters are more shallow and that increase the waves’ violence. We will try to sail on deep waters but it won’t be easy.”
