At 5.30 local time (9.30 UTC), 18 hours after the start, Maserati Multi 70 is in a head-to-head duel with Argo south of Guadeloupe, the most critical passage of the race.
Soldini says from aboard: “We’ve always been on the lead touching 39 knots of speed until St Barts, where we caught a fishing trap with a rudder: we were forced to stop just for a few minutes and Argo, who was very close by, overtook us. For the next hours south of Guadeloupe we’re expecting to sail close-hauled with 12-14 knots, the passage is complex but we have more than 200 miles before the finish line and we will fight tooth and nail!”
Maserati Multi 70 is sailing south-east at 19 knots, on Argo‘s wake who’s sailing at 17 knots 3 miles ahead. In third place is PowerPlay, following after a dozen of miles at 3 knots.
