It’s 13.00 local time (11.00 UTC), a little more than 24 hours after the start of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, and Maserati Multi 70 and Mana are engaged in a ruthless match race, less than half a mile between each other, north of Sicily.
The two MOD 70s were always very close to each other since the start of the race, they never lost sight of each other and they kept on overtaking each other. They passed the island of Stromboli, the point farthest north of the course, around 4 last night (2 UTC) and they set course to west-south-west towards Favignana. Four hours later, around 8, the wind got lighter and the two trimarans were forced to search a better wind farther north.
