At 9.30 UTC, 14 hours after setting sail from Los Angeles, Maserati Multi 70 is still sailing inside the depression, with light wind between 3 and 6 knots.
Giovanni Soldini explains from aboard: “We decided to sail further North of our competitors, to get out as soon as possible of the bubble of light wind that separates us from the trade wind, steadier and stronger. At the moment we’re still in the low pressure zone, but the wind could come in any moment.”
The race organization decided to publish the positions with a 4 hour delay, to avoid revealing the competitors’ strategies right away.
According to the 7 UTC updates, Maserati Multi 70 was sailing north-west at 6.4 knots.
Argo and PowerPlay, further South, were sailing respectively at 22.6 and 6.5 knots.
