Maserati Multi 70 reached Les Saintes islands, South of Guadeloupe, today at 7.45 local time (11.45 UTC). Giovanni Soldini’s Team is still in the lead, 15 miles ahead American MOD 70 Argo.
“It was a very challenging but great night, we were always sailing ‘acannamorta'” explains Giovanni Soldini from aboard. “We reached 37 knots tonight! Now we’re sailing clause hauled with 22 knots with full main and solent”.
The Italian crew was able to sail out of the critical passage without suffering the light wind too much. On the contrary, Argo followed a course closer to shore and she slowed down more.
Maserati Multi 70 reached the point furthest South in the RORC Caribbean 600 course, now she will have to round Guadeloupe and sail along the 216 miles she has left before the finish line.
