Maserati Multi70’s 2016 competitive season spans two events: the Rolex Middle Sea Race and the RORC Transatlantic Race. Each one will provide an opportunity to study and drive the technological development of the trimaran which is very much the natural next step in the Maserati project embarked upon five years ago.
Maserati Multi70’s first event of the season is also her most important: the Rolex Middle Sea Race, one of the great classic offshore races, which starts from Malta on Saturday, October 22. First held in 1968 and now on its 37th outing, the Middle Sea has attracted all the big names in sailing in the course of its illustrious history. The 608-nautical mile event starts and finishes at Malta and involves an anticlockwise circumnavigation of the island of Sicily, with the Aeolian and Egadi Islands and Pantelleria and Lampedusa to port. The current record of 47 hours 55’ and 3” was set by Rambler (USA) in 2007.
Maserati Multi70’s second and final competitive foray in 2016 is the RORC Transatlantic Race, starting from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands on Sunday, November 26. This event will also be the futuristic trimaran’s ocean-going debut as she’ll sail 3,000 miles to the finish-line at Grenada in the Caribbean.
