At 8.30 UTC the three 70′ trimarans are sailing towards Saint Barth leading the fleet of 73 boats that set sail yesterday from Fort Charlotte for the RORC Caribbean 600, less than 5 miles apart.
Argo, PowerPlay and Maserati Multi 70 reached together the mark off Barbuda, around 20 UTC yesterday, where the light wind dropped even more. Argo and PowerPlay were able to use a small gust to clear the mark and sail forward, while the Italian trimaran was stuck with no wind for an hour with the maxi 80′ trimaran Ultim’Emotion 2.
During the following hours Giovanni Soldini and his Team were able to catch up with their competitors, reaching them around 4 UTC West of Saint Kitts island.
17 hours after the start, at 8.30 UTC, PowerPlay is sailing in first place at 15.7 knots, 447 miles from the finish line, followed after 3 miles by Maserati Multi 70 and Argo, almost aligned, sailing respectively at 11.1 and 12.3 knots.
It looks like the race will be very hard-fought until the end: the light wind gets even lighter near the islands, making the passages very complicated.
