On the second day of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, at 11 UTC, Maserati Multi 70 is sailing towards Palermo in second place behind Mana, with Snowflake and Zoulou behind.
For the first stretch of the route, up to Capo Passero, the MOD 70s raced with light winds. From that point to the Strait of Messina, passed during the night, they managed to reach higher speeds thanks to a good upwind and Maserati Multi 70 reached the third position.
Out of the strait, the wind fell again. ” We spent a night of wrestling with the calm flat,” says Soldini past Stromboli. “We also managed to overtake Zoulou and we are now a couple of miles behind Mana. Up to Palermo we will continue to sail with little wind, around 6 knots. From there we should find a stronger southerly wind, with which we will go upwind to Pantelleria. We are very happy nonetheless with how we can sail with little wind, despite the foils in the water that do not benefit us with these conditions.”
